BC Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil 1/2 cup
  • Yellow onion 1
  • Garlic 3 cloves
  • Tomato paste 10 oz
  • Cider vinegar 1 cup
  • Honey 1 cup
  • Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup
  • Dijon mustard 1 cup
  • Soy sauce 1/2 cup
  • Hoisin sauce 1 cup
  • Chili powder 2 tbl
  • Ground cumin 1 tbl
  • Red pepper flakes 1 1/2 tsp

Prep

  • Yellow onion - chop
  • Garlic - mince — knife confidence is fun, keeping all ten fingers is even better.

Instructions

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over low heat, add the onions, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, until the onions are translucent but not browned. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Add the tomato paste, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili powder, cumin, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, and ignore any drive-by culinary nonsense from the sidelines. Use the sauce immediately or pour into a container and refrigerate.
